Wildlife Photography Monterey VA

Spring season in Monterey, VA brought all kinds of beautiful and interesting photos.  We stayed at our favorite place, the Wilson House in Monterey, VA located in beautiful Highland County, VA. This year we had a good bit of rain on our vacation, but we managed with some creative thinking.  IT rained about 5 days straight at one point and I decided to at least stage some shots on an old stump outside the kitchen window and shoot from inside. So I grabbed a few branches from a Crab-Apple tree and set some bird seed out to get a few birds to come in. It worked out pretty good. I see why they stage shots for bird photos even more now.

As we went driving along on the back roads we saw our first Cattle Egret ever this year. Turned out pretty good for a first shot. We also saw our first Black bear, love wild life photography when it creeps up on you. We were flying down a road when I saw out of the corner of my eye a black spot in a tree that did not seem like it belonged there. We hit the breaks and found a pull off on the side of the road to photograph this black bear. Well the Black Bear decided we were watching it and it didn't like that, as it was trying to climb up the tree to get a nap. So he came back down and move on towards the big woods.

We also got some photographs of some farm animals this year that came out pretty good.

As we went along trying to find wildlife to photograph we can never overlook the micro world of Macro photography. We always manage to get some good Macro shots of insects and wild flowers while out scouting around the woods.
